CD Production of Wagner’s “Götterdämmerung” in the Far East

January 07, 2018

The Choir Academy Lübeck will be in Hong Kong for a CD production till January 24th, 2018. In collaboration with the renowned and internationally recognized Bamberg Symphony Chorus, a longtime partner that gladly makes use of the young talents of the Choir Academy for its concerts, the vocal ensemble will be recording Richard Wagner’s “Götterdämmerung” for the classical music label Naxos together with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of its principal conductor Jaap van Zweden. This will bring to completion Naxos’ highly regarded opera tetralogy, “Der Ring des Nibelungen”. This recording has gained so much attention, partly because of the exceptional ensemble of singers – Matthias Goerne, Michelle de Young, Kwangchul Youn, to name a few – and has already turned into a best seller with the first three parts. Being selected for the recording of “Götterdämmerung” is a mark of distinction for the Choir Academy; one that honors the choir and the successful work of its artistic director, Rolf Beck.

The joint guest performance of the International Choir Academy Lübeck together with the Bamberg Symphony will also register positively in the international media: For instance, the professional journal “Das Opernglas” will invariably be present when yet another part of the “Ring” is played and recorded in Hong Kong. In Great Britain the BBC will be doing extensive reporting. In the USA this event has long been a subject of much attention. Live reports about the Hong Kong “Ring” are on the internet and even in the Israeli press. This also shows that the metropolises in the Far East have by now developed into significant centers for classical music. In fact, these days – as with this “Ring” recording – they are even setting the tone globally, producing marvelous results. The “Ring” from Hong Kong has been coming out on Naxos every year since 2015 and will be completed with the 2018 recording of “Götterdämmerung”.
